Security

  1. Are all of the files I keep in my HomeDataGuard File Cabinet secure?
All of the digital files that you upload to your HomeDataGuard File Cabinet are automatically encrypted, individually, before they are stored on our servers. ONLY YOU HAVE ACCESS to your files, through a secure login system with an encrypted password that only you know. Every account is secured using state-of-the-art networks, firewalls, encryption technology, individualized passwords and timed log-offs.
HomeDataGuard.com employs Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol 3.0 or above using 128 bit encryption and has implemented physical, electronic and network security measures to protect your digital copies.
Your uploaded files will remain encrypted and can only be converted back when you log in and download to your computer. Since HomeDataGuard employees do not have access to your password information, only you or the people you share your password with can access your account and download that file.
  2. What does it mean for my data to be encrypted?
Encryption technology scrambles data to prevent it from being read by unauthorized parties. Encryption works by performing mathematical operations on plain text to transform it into scrambled cipher text. The common factor is a special value called a key which is used to both encrypt and decrypt the data. Without the proper key value, it is impossible to restore the original data. HomeDataGuard uses Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) technology to encrypt your files.
  3. What happens if I lose my password?
If you lose your password you will need to reset your password when you visit the site www.HomeDataGuard.com. Click the login link, then select “request new password” and follow the instructions. We do not retain any records of your password and our employees do not have access to your password unless you provide it.
Hint: We have designed our password creation system for high security. Please write down this password, try to memorize it, and keep it in a secure location.
Hint: We recommend that you update your password every few months.
  4. Are you HIPAA compliant?
Critical Digital Data, Inc is committed to helping our customers comply with privacy and security regulations set forth in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and we are proud to meet, and in many cases exceed, HIPAA security standards requirements. Our methods of controlled user access, 128-bit SSL data encryption, documented activity logs, automatic time-out features and the use of secure, dedicated servers are just a few of the many ways we protect the integrity of your patients’ health-related information shared and stored on our system.
  5. If I decide to cancel my account what happens to the files I've stored in my HomeDataGuard Online File Cabinet?
If you decide to cancel your account, be sure to download any important documents you want to retain first. Subject to the other terms of the HomeDataGuard agreement, if we receive your request to reinstate or re-activate your HomeDataGuard Account within three months after either: a) we suspend your access for failure to pay fees when due; or. B) you terminate the account, we will in our sole discretion, and upon payment of any fees that would otherwise have applied during the interim:
    • i, reinstate your HomeDataGuard Account and restore your access to the electronic records that were in the HomeDataGuard Account on the date access was suspended,
    • ii. re-activate the account for a limited period of time so that you may recover copies of the electronic records in the HomeDataGuard Account on the date access was suspended. We will then permanently close the account and all files contained in your File Cabinet will be permanently deleted.
