HomeDataGuard Online File Cabinet Quick Start Guide

Overview

HomeDataGuard works on the Internet so you can access your File Cabinet 24/7/365 from anywhere you have Internet access. There is no need to install any software to use it.

Your HomeDataGuard File Cabinet has four drawers: the top two drawers include several pre-named folders to get you started; the bottom two drawers are empty. In each drawer, you can create new folders as you need them. We recommend that you open the top two drawers to see if the pre-named folders are useful to you; simply delete those which are not.

We recommend that you decide in advance how to organize your file cabinet in the most logical way for your personal needs and preferences. For example, you might want to put all home-inventory and emergency related information together in one drawer, all videos in another drawer, and all business-related information in another.

Register & Create Your Password

Register by clicking on “Try it Now” or “Register,” and provide the information requested. When creating your username and password, please memorize it and write it down in a safe, secure place

Login

Enter your username and password. The vault door will open and you will be taken inside to your File Cabinet. You have the choice of working in the File Cabinet view (most popular) or the Tree Structure view (best when you’ve added many files). To select the File Cabinet view (“3-D”), click on one of the Drawers. In this Quick Start Guide we only discuss the 3-D File Cabinet.

Tip: Once you are logged in, try not to use the “Back” arrow button in your Internet browser. Instead use the icons and buttons on the screen.

Add (Upload) One of Your Files – It’s Fast & Easy!

  1. Open the Drawer of your choice by scrolling your mouse over it and clicking. Click the tab of an existing folder or create a new Folder (see instructions later in this guide).
  2. Once you’re inside a folder, click “Upload File,” located just below the folder. A new uploader box will open up.
  3. Uploading a file is exactly the same as attaching a document to an email. Click on the “Browse” button to find the File on your computer, and follow the prompts to select it.
  4. Once the File has been selected (you’ll see the file in the browser field), then:

    a. Enter a title for the new file;

    b. Click “UPLOAD.” The progress bar will let you know when your file has been uploaded;

    c. Click “SUBMIT” to encrypt and complete the upload.

    Note: Depending on the file size and type, the process will vary in time. If it says “Processing”, continue to add other files or log out. You will be able to view the uploaded file after your next upload or the next time you log in.
